Not only is it detrimental to health, the smartphone industry in China is also affected by the Corona virus outbreak. Reportedly, cellphone shipments in China are predicted to decline in the first quarter of 2020.
The leading research institute, Internal Data Corporation (IDC), predicts smartphone shipments in China will decrease by more than 30% in Q1 2020, compared to Q1 2019. IDC cited the reason for Corona's obstacle to the overall plan of the smartphone shipping process in China.
"The Corona outbreak creates uncertainty in the planned launch, supply chain, distribution channels, both in the medium and long term," explained IDC, quoted from CNBC International, Saturday (02/15/2020).
In line with this, Canalys also gave the same report. The research institute predicts the smartphone industry will drop 50% in the same quarter. Canalys also mentioned that some smartphone vendors chose to stop marketing their products.
"Technology vendors choose to stop marketing because it is impossible to turn attention to product releases, such as 5G devices." Canalys explained.
The research institute also predicts there will be a delay in launching to decrease shipments of 5G devices due to the Corona outbreak.
"It will take time for vendors to change their product launch roadmap in China, which is likely to reduce 5G shipments by 2020." added Canalys.
