This problem is relatively rare, where the letters on the hard disk partition are not in alphabetical order. Generally, as we usually see the Windows OS hard disk partition letters will start from C: \ which contains the system then D: \ and so on. But it is not impossible if the partition letters are not sequential.

As I experienced yesterday when I finished installing Windows OS on a PC, there are no sequential letters in the font. The partition letters start from C: \ then D: \ and F: \, so the partition letters E: \ don't exist. The partition letter E: \ will appear when I use external media such as flash and external hard drives. Have you ever experienced the same thing?

Here's How to Change Harddisk Partition Letters

To overcome these problems, we simply rely on the default features that already exist in Windows. What we need to resolve the case is to open the Disk Management window .

There are 3 ways to go to the Disk Management page, namely: Control Panel, Computer, and Run. Please choose which step is the easiest.


Method 1

For those who want to try from the Control Panel , please open the Control Panel from Start> Control Panel. Then from your Control Panel window click select Administrative Tools> Computer Management> Storage> Disk Management (Local).


Method 2

Next, if you want to try from Computer or This PC (My Computer), please right-click Computer that appears on the Desktop or in the Windows Explorer window, then click Manage> Storage> Disk Management (Local).


Method 3

last 3 ways to go to the Disk Management window can be from Run. Activate Run by pressing Windows + R on the keyboard then type diskmgmt.msc and Enter .

I assume you are now in the Disk Management window according to one of the ways above. Please in the Disk Management window you select the drive that you want to change the font, then right click> click Change Drive Letter and Paths .

Then here you need to click on the Change button.

See the picture below, well that's where we can change the hard drive partition drive letter. Click Ok if you have selected the letters as desired.


Warning dialog box will appear as shown below, do not be surprised, please click Yes.

You also need to know that we will not be able to change the drive letter of the partition which contains the system, such as Windows OS. Windows systems by default will be stored on the C: \ drive.
