Level 1
Damage that occurs at this level is usually caused by Bad sectors. To handle this, there are several ways and variations of the experiment, adapted to the brand of the hard drive and the number of bad sectors .
- For initial handling, you can use the FORMAT C: / C command (adjust the drive to be formatted). / C is used to clean damaged clusters.
- The second step, if it has not been successful, can use the Disk Manager program from each hard disk manufacturer.
- If that doesn't work, you can use HDDREG software, please download the program on the internet.
- If that doesn't work, try the Low Level Format or Zero File.
- If you still can't, you can cut the damaged hard disk sector, by dividing it and not using the damaged sector.
Level 2
Damage that occurs at level 2 is Loss of Hard Drive Partition and Data. This can be caused by a virus or an error using the utility program. There is something to be considered in restoring lost hard disk partitions, namely the capacity of the hard drive and its file system type. Partitions with the FAT File System are easier to restore than NTFS or the Linux File System.
- First check the hard disk partition using FDISK or Disk Manager
- To restore it can use software such as Acronis Disk Director, Handy Recovery, Stellar Phoniex etc.
Level 3
Damage that causes the hard disk to be detected in the BIOS but cannot be used, an error message always appears when the computer is POST. Usually this is due to FIRMWARE from the hard disk which is problematic. For these symptoms, many occur on the Maxtor brand hard disk with the series of names of the Gods. To fix this you can download the Firmware program from the hard disk brand website.
Level 4
Damage that causes the hard disk to be properly detected by the BIOS and can not be used anymore. This is the hardest level in my opinion. Because to fix it, we need a little bit of tinkering with electronic devices and their internal components. Tackling hard disks that are not detected by the BIOS in many ways.
- Checking the electric current flowing to the hard disk
- Replacing the IC on the hard disk mainboard
- Open the hard drive cover and check the position of the hard drive head
- The extreme way that a damaged hard drive can be cannibalized with another hard drive that has a different drive, can be done by replacing the motherboard or taking the IC
Hopefully this can be an additional reference for you who want to try to repair the hard drive.
