A touchpad is a pointer device consisting of a special surface that can translate the user's finger movement and position to a relative position on the screen. Touchpad is a common feature of laptops and is also used as a substitute for a computer mouse on a small desk space.
Touchpad provides special assistance for users to do work that always relies on the mouse excessively. Touchpads vary in size but are rarely made more than 40 cm² (6.3 x 6.3 cm or about 6 inches²). Touchpad can also be found on Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and some portable media players, such as the iPod using the click wheel.
Some common causes that cause the Touchpad on the Laptop to not function properly. among others are :
- Laptop has a virus attack
- Touchpad dirty because of dust / stains
- Touchpad exposed to sweat oil
- The touchpad driver is missing or not installed
- Error setting on the touchpad program
- Hardware Damage (touchpad)
- Driver Damage
- Driver not installed
- Error touchpad settings
- File system corrupt
Here are some proven effective ways to fix a Touchpad that is not functioning normally on a laptop that is commonly experienced by laptop users:
A. Cleaning Dust and Oil
Taouchpad on a laptop has sensitive properties, meaning that if the touchpad is dirty or covered with dust it certainly reduces the sensitivity of the touchpad itself, it's good to always take care to clean all parts of the laptop with a chamois cloth (don't get too wet) or try cleaning it with alcohol to clean stubborn stains left over from food that is difficult to clean with plain water.
B. Download the Official Touchpad Driver
The first time you use a laptop / notebook, indeed your touchpad can be used automatically, but don't forget to also install the touchpad driver provided on our laptop vendor's official website. such as Asus, Toshiba, HP, Acer, Lenovo, etc. because with the touchpad driver installation, it will reduce the risk of errors. Driver download address for each vendor:

C. Scanning Antivirus Software
Viruses / malware do have a significant impact on hardware, both internal and external. Usually the virus disrupts the system program, so that various hardware can not run optimally. For example what happens in the case of the touchpad is that the cursor cannot move or the cursor moves on its own.
It would be nice before making further repairs you do a scanning to clean the virus on your laptop in full.
D. Settings in the Control Panel
Maybe your Toucpad is not functioning normally due to a push error which is a key combination to turn off the Toucpad on a laptop that is Fn + Touchpad Icon, you can reactivate it via the Control Panel by Control Panel - Harware and Sound - Device and Sound - TAB Device Settings select Enable on Synaptics Touchpad
E. Remove the Mouse / Touchpad Driver
If the touchpad settings are appropriate (on / active) then perhaps there is an error in the default software and the touchpad is still not working normally. Go to control panel -> system -> device manager. then look for the mice and other pointing device -> click the symbol next to it, then delete the driver named Synaptics PS / 2 Port Touchpad by hovering the mouse pointer on the driver -> right click -> select delete.
After you delete the driver, restart the laptop and the touchpad driver will refresh with automatic install when the Windows OS is up again.
F. Repairing Through the Registry
In some cases the touchpad does not function normally between the right and left buttons upside down, or the laptop cannot click at all so it can be tried to repair by editing the Windows registry.
- Enter the regirtry editor (regedit) carany, click star => "RUN" fill the tab with the word "regedit" after clicking OK .
- Look for the following key HKEY_CURRENT_USER => Control Panel => mouse
- Notice on the right look for the value "swapmousebutton" usually at the bottom => click 2x (double click) then the "edit string" dialog box will appear , on the "value data" tab change the value to 0 , then click OK.
- Restart your computer.
H. Turn off the Laptop
Sometimes many ways have been tried to fix the Toucpad that is not functioning normally, the pointer moves to right and left but does not work, then I try to unplug the laptop battery and leave the laptop in the condition of no electricity for 2 hours after that try to plug it in battery back maybe this way your Touchpad can run normally as I have experienced. Maybe something like this is caused by electrical zippers.
I. Restore BIOS Settings
The third way to deal with Toucpad does not work is to restore the BIOS settings, you must be careful when using this method because if it is wrong can cause the system to fail Boot because the BIOS of each laptop is different - it would be nice if you follow the following tutorial:
- Shut down or restart your laptop.
- After that press the F2 key on the keyboard quickly when the laptop boots. a BIOS menu will appear. (if it's not fast enough, then you have to do it from over).
- then press the F9 key, to change the settings to default.
- Finally press the F10 key to exit.
Replace the new Touchpad
If the system repairs are done can still not be able to overcome the problematic Touchpad, it would be better if asked to the experts (Service) may indeed have hardware damage and must be replaced.
