WhatsApp is the most popular messaging application at the moment. As previously reported referring to the report mentioned by WhatsApp at the end of 2019, the number of WhatsApp active users was recorded at more than 1.5 billion users in 180 countries. And downloaded five billion times on the Google Play Store.
Now WhatsApp just recorded the number of users, as reported by Engadget, Facebook's application announced that it has pocketed 2 billion users worldwide. Even so, WhatsApp is still less competitive with Skype in this regard. Skype users have spent 3 billion minutes on voice and video calls every day.
As previously reported, WhatsApp has been named the most popular application, or downloaded the most in 2019. This was revealed from the research results of the Research Tower application research firm in the report "Store Intelligence Data Digest: 2019 Year in Review".
In the United States, WhatsApp's popularity is still behind Facebook Messenger and Snapchat. While outside the US, especially in developing countries, WhatsApp is not only used as a communication tool, but also a tool for businesses to reach consumers and customers.
With this achievement, WhatsApp became the second application outside of Google to achieve this number of downloads. Previously, Facebook reached that number in 2019.
Along with this announcement, in the midst of data security issues and frequent bugs, WhatsApp confirmed its commitment. The company says end-to-end encryption is the default setting in applications to maintain the safety of its users' data.
According to the company, strong encryption is now a necessity in modern life. Therefore, they make sure there is no compromise about security, remembering that it will make people feel less secure.
